Hello Axel,

Thank you for this format overview. I agree with you about Loop; I really support the initiative of independently creating TV formats, but honestly, this concept is fundamentally very weak, and I honestly don’t see why anyone would find it interesting to watch at all.

In general, I think YouTube is in serious decline, and now there’s this narrative being pushed that anyone can create a good game show with just a few dollars invested. But my personal opinion is that this is completely untrue, and that game shows—especially knowledge quizzes—remain the one format that is still exclusively tied to television and family viewing on linear channels. Honestly, I don’t believe that any independent creator will ever achieve real success with creating their own quiz show for YouTube. But again, kudos to Ben and his attempt, although as it stands, I feel the concept of his quiz is overcomplicated and simply lacks enough entertainment elements.

On the other hand, I’m curious about your personal opinion—do you think other paper formats like The Box can achieve success this quickly?

Alexander Herresthal is truly a genius, and he demonstrated a real masterclass in how little it actually takes for something to get commissioned even if it’s a paper format: a strong visual element (the box), an exceptional hook and twist (reality with tasks but a completely different perspective with the fear of the unknown), and most importantly—the entire concept is completely clear in two sentences and can be easily visualized.

Sorry for the long comment,

Best regards!

Hi Djordje,

you've raised so many interesting (and difficult to answer) questions!

I'll try to put them in order:

- Yes, you're absolutely right about Loop. It's a weak and “poor” game. I didn't judge it more harshly because I also think it was a good attempt...

- As for YouTube, however, I think it is still a growing platform. Of course, only a small part of independent content will gain visibility and (certain) success, but it is so incredibly vast and “omnivorous” that the numbers will still be significant.

- I agree about The Box: it's a wonderful format. However, even in this case, in order to be successful, a network in its country of origin needs to believe in the project and take the initial risk. Fortunately, this is still possible in Norway (and other Nordic countries). Unfortunately, this is not the case in other countries, including my own, Italy...

Thank you very much for your comments!

Ciao,

Axel
