1. X-CHANGING PROJECTS & IDEAS IN COLOGNE
Monday 26th and Tuesday 27th March the 1st edition of IP XCHANGE took place in the MCC Studios of Cologne, in the heart of Europe. The event was projected and organized by former Warner Brothers TV producer Wolfgang Link and TV marketing specialist Sandra Lehner (see pic).
The aim of IP XCHANGE was to create a platform for format trading, knowledge exchange and cooperation, especially for small and medium-sized production companies in the TV industry, whilst offering an opportunity to hear about the latest format releases from distribution companies ahead of the MipTV market.
This good mix of indies pitching new formats and docs, together with insightful learning sessions (like “How to reach Gen Z”, “Branded Entertainment”, “The 6 long-term trends of unscripted”, “From linear to streaming” and others) worked very well: more than 40 TV producers and distributors listened, networked, discussed about formats and industry facts in a climate of stimulating informality.
A clear formula for a clear target that is likely to have success in a landscape already full of markets and events, but sometimes too generic and a little too anonymous.
2. A QUIZ FOR IRISH SMART PEOPLE
Next Sunday 2nd April Ireland's Smartest will premiere on the Irish public broadcaster RTÉ One and the RTÉ Player, developed by Green Inc.
This brand-new quiz is described as a show that is not just about knowledge but also about nerve. Each contestant plays as an individual throughout the episode, pitted against the pressure of the ticking clock as they answer some tricky questions.
Presented by broadcast journalist Claire Byrne, the Ireland’s Smartest consists of ten 30’ episodes, with six heats, three semi-finals and a grand finale. In front of a studio audience, three contestants compete in each show, and as they progress in the tournament structure - from the Heats to the Semi-Finals to the Final - only one of them can be crowned the Series Champion.
Let’s see if there will be other twists to make it a bit more original.
3. THE ERA OF META-BROADCASTING
An interesting experiment is currently underway in Italy: for the very first time an original “traditional” unscripted series -Fight Back- is available only in the Metaverse. The first episode premiered last Thursday 23rd March at 9:00 pm and can be seen only by those who enter the Mevaverse of The Nemesis. Next week it will be replaced by a new episode and so on for all 4 episodes of the series. At this point the whole series will be rebroadcast a second time, for another 4 weeks.
Fight Back is hosted by Marco Mazzoli, the Italian DJ leading the most popular Italian radio show (Lo Zoo di 105), together with his 2 historical co-hosts (Fabio Alisei and Paolo Noise). In each episode 2 contestants (the “fighters”) clash over a sensitive topic (conspiracy, veganism…) on which they have a diametrically opposed position. Marco, Fabio and Paolo, together with the “meta-judges”, decide the harsh but also funny punishments, until the announcement of the “winner”.
The many thousands of users who enter The Nemesis’ Metaverse (divided in over 100 “rooms”), not only can attend the show on the 2 screens (indoor and outdoor), but also face the “virtual challenges” scattered all around in order to win points to spend in various experiences, interact with the “virtual corners” of the sponsors and till now have left over 2 millions of messages in the chat.
