1. INTER-GENERATIONAL SWAP & LOOKING FOR NEWS
The German production/distribution company Red Arrow Studios International has revealed the highlights from its catalog of unscripted formats that will be available to the international market at Mipcom 2022. Apart from some formats already described on this newsletter (Claim to Fame, Old People’s Home for Teenagers, My New Mystery Job), other 2 are worth a mention: Love for the Ages and Hold the Front Page.
The first one is originally produced by Kinetic Content for Tplus (US) and sees three middle-aged married couples, each at a crossroad in their relationships, attempt to inject some youthful energy back into their lives by swapping their spouses for partners 20 years younger. The consequences of this inter-generational swaps are easy to imagine.
The second one is the factual-entertainment Hold the Front Page (from CPL Productions for Sky Max U.K.). In the original series a duo of comedians (see pic below) travel across the UK working for a different local newspaper each week, on a mission to find real local stories strong enough to make the front page.
Their investigative journey around Britain sees them delve into local mysteries and take part in unusual events, with funny situations.
2. TRUST YOUR MUM & TRASFORM YOUR SELF
Also Warner Bros International Television Production (WBITVP) has just presented its formats slate for the Mipcom 2022, and also in this case we will focus on 2 of them.
Matched by Mom: four single young men turn to their parents for help finding their soulmates. In particular, their mothers will have the control of their love lives for all this period. Fun concept but already used so many times (see Meet your Mum, Pulling with my Parents…). The series will be launching simultaneously on RTL-owned Dutch streaming platform Videoland and in primetime on sister channel RTL4.
Go Hard or Go Home is a competition reality format set on a tropical island, where eight young people embark on a month of fitness training and epic challenges: their aim is to transform them in both mind and body. WBITVP-owned UK prodco Wall to Wall produces the show for BBC Three.
3. CELEBS ON BALLOON
But at the Mipcom there won’t only be formats by big groups: there are - luckily - also interesting contents from medium/small prodcos/channels.
One of them is Up in the Air, an interview format which premiered on TV3, a Catalonian channel, produced by Boxcom and launched on the upcoming market by Media Ranch.
The concept is simple: one host interviews a celebrity in colorful a hot air balloon. He will be joined by a surprise guest (friend of celebrity). The friend will also ask questions without revealing their identity. The celebrity will have to answer and guess who is the friend behind them. Easy, but effective.
