1) $100m FOR UNSCRIPTED FORMATS
Fox Entertainment and its in-house studio Fox Alternative Entertainment (FAE) have allocated a special fund (there is talk of around €100m) to identify new ideas of unscripted formats for the global market. Unfortunately, how this fund works and whom to ask for information is not exactly known yet. For now we just have this attractive but hazy news.
2) A NEW DATING WITH A LANGUAGE (AND PRODUCTION) TWIST
Channel 4 has commissioned the new dating show The Language of Love from 2LE Media, Motion Content Group and Zeppelin, a Banijay Iberia company. A group of English guys and girls goes to Spain, where they are paired up with Spanish counterparts. None speaks the other’s language: will they manage to build a romantic connection? The concept seems quite normal but it’s very clever from the production point of view: 1 production, same costs, 2 Countries covered and double effectiveness. Furthermore the English host Davina McCall (together with a Spanish host) is always a guarantee.
3) NETFLIX’S GAME
Netflix has picked up Night School Studio, an indie game development firm, which worked on the now-cancelled game based on the original series Stranger Things. The aim is clear: to produce new spin off – predominantly designed to be played on games – from their existing IP. After series, films, datings and other kind of shows, the streamer definitely has joined the game market to be as generalist as possible and capture all kind of targets.
